The Iowa High School Athletic Association today announced the classifications and districts of all teams for the upcoming 2023 and 2024 football seasons.

West Branch will remain in Class 1A and will play in District 5 along with the following teams:

  • Beckman Catholic
  • Cascade
  • Durant
  • Iowa City Regina
  • Wilton

These teams will account for five of the opponents on the Bears' 2023 and 2024 eight-game schedules, which have yet to be determined and announced.

After having received their districts today, teams will soon submit their preferred non-district game opponents to assist the IHSAA in composing the full schedules. It is expected that those schedules will be released within the next few weeks.

All of Class 1A and its districts can be viewed in this PDF from the IHSAA. All classifications and districts can be viewed on the IHSAA website.

The IHSAA also confirmed playoff qualifiers and format. Like the past few seasons, there will be 32 teams who will qualify for the Class 1A playoffs, which are the top four teams in each of the eight districts.
