West Branch High School senior Tanner Lukavsky today has been offered to join the Iowa State Cyclones football team upon graduation as a preferred walk-on. The team captain was informed of the offer earlier today and is excited to share the news this evening.

The offer from Iowa State is Lukavsky's fourth overall, the first being by Northeastern State University back in June, and mostly recently Ellsworth Community College and Western Illinois University.

“Tanner is a diamond in the rough and Iowa State has recognized that,” says West Branch head coach, Butch Pedersen. “It’s a tremendous honor for a hard-working young man to play at the D1 level. If he decides to do so, he’ll be great.”

The running back and linebacker is in his fourth season as a starter with the Bears' Varsity squad and has become a staple of the West Branch offense and defense.

Through two full seasons at running back, Lukavsky has amassed 2,021 yards and 28 TD on 258 attempts (7.8+ yards per carry), to go along with 520 yards and 6 TD receiving. Through five games this season, he has totaled 472 yards and 3 TD on 84 attempts and 256 yards/3TD receiving.

On the defensive side of the ball this season, Lukavsky has a total of 21 tackles and 2 INT, both being returned for touchdowns. Through three full seasons, he has totaled 107.5 tackles, 5 INT, and 5 sacks.

Congratulations to Tanner on this offer from Iowa State!
