Recap
Friday night in Wapello, the Bears improved their undefeated season to 7-0 and 4-0 in District 5 play by defeating the Wapello Indians 42-21.
It was a slow first half for the West Branch offense, scoring just 14 points on two Koenig to Shawver touchdown connections. The defense? Stout as they have been all year. But when the second half started, it was an entirely different team.
In the third quarter, the West Branch offense racked up 20 points and got another 7 just as the fourth quarter began. Not a bad way to begin the half and go on to win 42-21.
The West Branch offense tallied 353 total yards Friday night; 207 on the ground, 146 through the air. That's balanced.
Quarterback Cooper Koenig was 9/15 passing and accounted for three touchdowns. Senior Matt Shawver was on the receiving end of two of those while Devin Kindon caught the other. Shawver and Kindon ended their nights with 63 and 44 yards receiving, respectively. Koenig's 146 yards put him over 1,000 for the season.
Junior running back Luke Lenoch was typical Luke Lenoch, rushing for 179 yards on 18 attempts, scoring three touchdowns. Like his quarterback, he also eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the season (rushing).
