Recap
Beckman Catholic High School in Dyersville was the scene Friday night for the Bears' final regular season game, and it was an important one. With a win, the Bears would claim a share of the Class 1A District 5 championship, but standing in their way was the District 5 leader, the Beckman Blazers, who were looking to have the championship all to themselves.
After a scoreless first quarter, things picked up in the second as Beckman pulled ahead 6-0. However, the Bears came out of hibernation and rattled off 35 unanswered points into the fourth quarter with a balanced offensive approach and, as we've seen all season, a stout defense. The Blazers tried to make it a game late with two quick scores, but the Bear defense sealed the deal with a late interception.
West Branch wins 35-21 and is a co-district champion in Class 1A District 5, shared with Beckman and Cascade. Check out highlights, post game interviews, photos, and more from Friday night's victory below.
The Bears will now head into the playoffs this coming Friday. Their opponent is to be announced at noon on Saturday by the Iowa High School Association. As a district champion, the Bears are anticipating a home game, a place where they've only played once this season.
