Game Notes
Four seasons, four consecutive new starting QB's for the Comets. Josh Walshire takes over as lead signal caller for West Liberty. He tallied 73 yards passing and 46 yards rushing in a 1st game 27-0 loss vs Tipton. Other skill position weapons are Chris McMichael (leading rusher, 54 yards), Joe Kelly (3 carries, 43 yards), and big bruising fullback Bryce Esmoil (6', 215). Keep an eye on speedster Evan Dalton in the return game, he can fly by you in the blink of an eye. West Liberty finished 2014 0-9. but they were a playoff qualifier in 2012, 2013, and 2014....As for the Bears' quarterback, its Cooper Koenig. In his opening night, he took a curtain call after compiling 200 total yards (171 passing on 16-21 efficiency, and 29 rushing with 3 TD) and 5 TD. Oh, by the way, and he was the QB for the Comets in 2014. Drama, drama, drama. All-state RB Luke Lenoch ran for 138 yards with an 18 yard TD score. WR Matt Shawver hauled in 7 passes for 98 yards and a pair of scores. The Bears will begin life without all-state lineman Drew Finnegan, who suffered an ankle injury. He will now assist the coaching staff. Junior LB Cale Donovan collected 9 tackles in his first varsity action...This game marks the 2nd annual throwback jersey night for West Branch. They will be adorned in purple jerseys to pay homage to the Polar Bear teams of West Branch's past.
