It's a tale of two seasons for Alburnett. The Pirates began the season 1-3, but have since won 4 games in a row. Junior QB Dillon Caves is a stat sheet stuffer, leading the team in rushing yards (701) as well as passing (951 yards, 17 TD). Connor Shulista, Kolton Rose, and Jordan Stewart are other names you need to pay attention to. The Pirates have the 2nd best rushing offense in District 5 behind....West Branch, who continues to lead the district in rushing and total offense. The Bears lead all of Class 1A in scoring average (45.88 per game) and are 2nd in defensive scoring average (allowing 6.4 per game). Behind a strong running game, and an opening play interception return for a TD, the Bears scored early and often last week in Wilton, winning 56-0....Senior night festivities will begin at around 6:20 on Friday. Just before kickoff, a special guest will be recognized...the Bears can clinch home field advantage until the semifinals with a victory on Friday.

In 2011, the Bears avenged an early regular season loss to the Pirates by defeating them 21-13 in a Class 1A quarterfinal game in West Branch.
