Recap
Friday night in Durant, West Branch beat the Wildcats 53-13 thanks to incredible performances from West Branch's offense and defense.
Once again, the Bears' defense was stout and only held Durant to about 250 yards of total offense and 13 points, holding Durant scoreless in the second half.
On the offensive side of the ball, as a team, the Bears set a new school record for most offensive yards gained in a game. West Branch passed and rushed for a whopping 558 yards, beating the previous mark of 556 yards from a 2012 game against Wapello. Of those 558 yards, 291 came through the air while 267 came on the ground
That wasn't the only record broken Friday night by the Bears. "What?!" you exclaim? Yes, that is correct. Junior wideout Matt Shawver tallied up a school record 155 yards receiving on only 7 receptions, gaining an average of 22 yards per catch.
Sophomore running back Luke Lenoch put himself in the record books for the second time this season, this time running for a 94 yard touchdown. Lenoch's run bests Cole Kelly's 93 yard touchdown run from back in 2009. Sid Thompson still holds the longest play record with a 99 yard return for a touchdown.
