Recap
As expected heading into a new season, the first quarter didn't feature much action as both teams were still getting their feet under them. However, when the second quarter came around, things started to pick up. In his first Varsity game, sophomore quarterback Beau Cornwell opened the scoring in the game by going 31 yards on an option read keeper.
On the Bears' very next drive, Cornwell found wide receiver Cooper Kabela on a screen pass that went for a 27 yard touchdown to put the Bears up 13-0. Soon after, Cornwell takes a designed quarterback draw, this time running 21 yards for his second touchdown of the game, putting the Bears up 19-0 at the half.
On the Bears' first defensive series of the second half, senior defensive lineman Colton Dietz gets his first career interception on a bobbled screen pass by the Comets. A few plays later, the Bears made the Comets pay for their mistake as Luke Lenoch busts a huge 58 yard run to give him his first touchdown of the season. However, the Comets answered quickly with a long tochdown run of their own, this one from 64 yards to put themselves on the board. To cap the scoring in the 3rd quarter, Luke Lenoch gets back into the endzone for his second score of the night, this one from just two yards out to put the Bears up 33-7.
Over half way into the 4th quarter, senior Cale Donovan finds the endzone for his first varsity touchdown to put a lid on the Bears' scoring for the evening. Within the final three minutes of the game, the Comets get into the endzone twice, one from a 12 yard run and another on a long pass as time expired in the game. Bears win 40-20.
