Game Notes
What a difference a season makes, eh? In 2014, the Beavers won two district games. Turn the page a year and they have doubled their district win total and have yet to add any marks in the loss column (in district play), including last week's 24-17 upset over top 10 team and previously unbeaten Alburnett. Javin Drake is the piston that fires the Wilton offensive engine. The senior QB has thrown for 1,096 yards and rushed for another 460. His main receiving targets are Cody Navarro (27 rec, 389 yards) and Evan Reifert (22 rec, 448 yards). The team's leading rusher is Bryce Oveson at just shy of 600 yards. Teams are averaging 21.7 points per game against the Beavers. Their offense and offensive formations are going to look very similar to...
....West Branch enters this game with the same record it had in 2014, seven up seven down (7-0). Luke Lenoch continues to be a key component to the offensive success for the Bears. The junior RB has amassed 1,125 yards rushing and 18 TD (ranking 6th and T2nd in Class 1A, respectively). In his 18 games as a varsity starting RB, Lenoch has 18 games with over 100+ yards rushing. Credit the Bear offensive line of: Sophomore Jacob Barnhart, Junior Cole Tisinger, Junior John Krall, Senior Ryan Grosvenor, and Senior Ian Andrews. The Bears also have a 1,000 yard passer in QB Cooper Koenig, who has completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,089 yards and 11 TD.
Last week in a Wapello 42-21 win at Wapello, the Bears got 3 TD passes from Koenig (two to Shawver, one to Devin Kindon) and three TD rushes from Lenoch (18 carries, 180 yards). Kindon and Cale Donovan continue to pace the West Branch defense as they recorded a tackle on 32 plays combined.
