Jarod graduated from West Branch in 2001 and played wide receiver and safety for the Varsity football team.

After high school, he attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa and is currently employed by the Iowa City Community School District.

Jarod began coaching at the high school level in 2003, taking over as the offensive coordinator in 2011. He stepped away from high school coaching after the 2016 season and coached Junior High football from 2017-2023. He was also a part of the BearCast from 2021 through the 2023 season.

He is married to Monica (Tucker) Tylee who graduated from West Branch in 2004 and is currently the co-Head Coach for the West Branch High School Varsity volleyball team. Jarod and Monica have three kids: Addyson (12), Hayden (10), and Tucker (6).
