Friday night, the Little Rose Bowl in West Branch played host to the 4th annual Throwback Night Game. Off the field, the community honored the West Branch High School class of 1967. On it, the Bears dawned purple jerseys to pay their respects to all teams of the past. With their 47-0 victory, the team accomplished their mission of continuing on the great tradition that is West Branch Football.
In the game, the Bears reached the endzone seven times, three of which were on passes from Beau Cornwell to Ben Thompson. Thompson's three touchdown receptions ties a school record, set by four other Bears: Mark Heid (1983), Pat Gates (1996), Ricky Riley (2005), and Tyler Donovan (2013). The team's four other scores came from Tanner Lukavsky, who had two rushing and one receiving, and Jacob Graves, who had one rushing.
The Bears opened District 3 play on the right note as they head into tough battles the next two weeks against Maquoketa Valley and Bellevue. For now, they'll enjoy this victory.
