Captain's Corner: Preparing mentally and physically

Welcome to the third installment in our new Captain's Corner series. Last week, Luke Lenoch recapped the first official week of practice and Media Day. This week, Cale Donovan talks about the team getting mentally and physically prepared for their week one matchup at West Liberty.

Welcome West Branch fans. The following will be an overview of what has happened, plus our thoughts, during the second week of official practice, as well as the scrimmage against Mount Vernon.

This second week of practice was all about preparation. Coming into this week we knew that we had to prepare ourselves mentally and physically as much as possible. This goal of being mentally and physically prepared for the season is only accomplished through hard work.

Physically, we were pushed harder than the week before through conditioning and pushing the tempo throughout the practice itself. And in the process of being pushed physically we are forced to be pushed mentally in order to grow in both aspects.

This past Friday we headed over to Cornell to scrimmage the Mount Vernon Mustangs. This scrimmage definitely helped our team in multiple ways. It gave our younger guys a realistic feel of what our games will be like. It also helped in deciding which players will start at which position. Perhaps, even more importantly, the scrimmage reminded us that we still need to keep growing and improving as a team in order to reach our goals.

Now that week two of practice is over, we know that we need to put the last pieces of the puzzle together in order perform as best we can against West Liberty next week.

Go Bears,
Cale Donovan
