Captain's Corner: Iso drills and Media Day

Welcome to the second installment in our new Captain's Corner series. Last week, Brandon Rummelhart recapped the first week of camp. This week, Luke Lenoch guides us through the first week of official practice, which included getting the pads on and Media Day.

Greetings West Branch football fans. All seems well as football has finally come back! I am here to fill you in on how the first week of official practice went.

It was a pretty eventful week with pads coming on and Media Day! Ah, I love hearing the smacking of pads... Shoulder pads were added to our practices last Wednesday, which was nice because we could finally make some contact with one another. The line could get rid of those pads they had to block and do what they do best: block and make big holes for the backs like myself.

We return a pretty experienced line with three starters: Jacob Barnhart, Cole Tisinger, and John Krall. A pretty solid left side of the line, I must say! Other guys are stepping up and improving every day. Andrew Black, Drake Bloem, and Nick Madsen have all been rotating at the guard and tackle positions and are really coming along each practice.

Finally, Saturday was upon us. Waking up at about 5:10 am, I got all my stuff out of the dryer, grabbed a Gatorade and headed off to practice, which was the first in all of our pads. Once I got to the locker room, I could tell everybody was pretty awake and excited! The annual iso drill really proves to the coaches who's most physical and really helps players. After our two hour long practice, it was time to clean up for Media Day, where pictures take 30 minute a piece and we are being pulled in every which direction for interviews.

Now that all the pictures are done with, the pads have been put on, it's time to suit up and get ready for our scrimmage Friday night up at Cornell, which will ready us for the first task at hand this season: West Liberty. Time to focus on the fundamentals and get 1% better each day! Should be a fun and exciting year for Bear fans! Come back next week to read more about the upcoming week.

Go Bears,
Luke Lenoch
