What a Friday night in West Branch. Not only was it Senior Night and MIlitary Appreciation Night, the Bears secured themselves at least a share of the Class 1A District 5 championship with a 55-14 victory over the Wilton Beavers.
After a lone score in the first quarter, the Bears exploded in the second, scoring 28 points to cruise to a 35-7 half time lead. In the first half, quarterback Cooper Koenig threw five touchdown passes, which is a new school record for touchdown passes in a game. Koenig, a senior himself, connected with four senior wide receivers for touchdowns: Aaron Barnes (x2), Devin Kindon, Matt Shawver, and Hunter Wargo.
In the fourth quarter, quarterback Brandon Rummelhart got in on the scoring action as well, completing a great 38 yard fade to Matt Shawver.
Junior Luke Lenoch once again racked up a large amount of yards on the ground, rushing for 211 yards on 23 carries. The running back also tallied two touchdowns, in addition to a two point conversion.
