At the annual end-of-season team banquet held this past Sunday at the high school, the coaching staff announced the team-voted captains for the upcoming football season.
The 2022 season captains are Carver Boelk, Kinnick Boelk, Wyatt Fiderlein, and Andy Henson.
Congratulations to these four to-be seniors. The leadership you've shown over the past three years in high school football has not gone unnoticed and will be counted on even more for the 2022 season.
After playing receiver for the 2020 season, Carver Boelk transitioned to quarterback in 2021. The junior in his first season playing quarterback was 63/120 (52.5%) passing for 902 yards (14.3 avg), 5 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Boelk also added 86 rushing attempts for 265 yards (3.1 avg) and 6 touchdowns.
Kinnick Boelk was one of the Bears' leading tacklers for the 2021 season with a total of 40, 24 of which were solo, and was a critical part of a stout Bears defense which allowed an average of just 13 points per game. Boelk also lead the team in punt returns with 6, totaling 32 yards (5.3 avg.). He also added 10 kickoff returns totaling 137 yards (13.7 avg.). On the offensive side of the ball, Boelk caught 9 passes from his brother for 107 yards (11.9 avg.) and 2 touchdowns.
Wyatt Fiderlein played in seemingly every snap of all three phases of the game in the 2021 season as the team's kicker, linebacker, and full back. Kicking the ball, Wyatt was 29/31 on PAT attempts (93.5%), 2/2 on field goals (long of 36), and had 46 kickoffs, four of which resulted in a touchback. Fiderlein was selected as a Class 1A District 5 MVP kicker for the 2021 season.
Andy Henson has lead the team in rushing for the past two seasons, putting up 1320 yards and 16 touchdowns on 189 carries (7.0 avg.) in 2021, earning a District MVP award. On the defensive side of the ball, Henson was third on the team in total tackles with 42.5, 30 of which were solo. He also added 2 sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
